What are dental veneers?

Veneer Placement A veneer is a thin protective layer used to cover the tooth surface. It is used to protect damaged teeth or perhaps to improve the look of misformed/chipped teeth.

Veneers come in several flavors, depending on the material used to build them: they can be porcelain veneers/ceramic veneers or composite veneers. Of these, composite veneers are cheaper but less durable than porcelain veneers. Additionally, porcelain veneers look more natural than composite ones.

The veneer can be molded to your teeth, sent to a dental technician for indrect fabrication, then sent back for bonding to your teeth. The entire process is kind of like putting window tint on your car or nail polish on your nails. The veneer acts as a protective layer around the tooth or teeth and it is glued on using resin technology.

What are the advantages to using veneers?

How long do veneers last?

Porcelain veneers no matter how durable can last only up to 10 years and a minimum of 5 years - they are not indestructible.
